Once upon a time the “go-to” for hens party planning involved the maid of honour rounding up the bridesmaids and calling on the local X shop to spend colossal amounts of money on male-anatomy inspired party decorations. The bride-to-be, doused in said paraphernalia would hit the town for some Magic Mike inspired activities whilst being piled with a myriad of shots, champagne and cocktails. Now don’t get me wrong, we know these parties still exist and there is certainly plenty of hen’s parties keeping the Yarra River striper boat afloat. However, these days we are seeing more hen’s parties with a guest lists that reads – pregnant-friend Felicity, Dry-July Jessica, and Feb-Fasting Fiona……..So the questions is; How do you plan a hen’s party that will be fun for everyone, and doesn’t include alcohol?
We have complied a list of our favourite ideas to help get you started.
The Healthy Hen: Leave it to the health and wellbeing experts that offer an alternative to the traditional, late night, alcohol fuelled hens party. Their packages combine healthy activities such as Yoga, Pilates and juice cleanses to leave the Bride and her friends feeling relaxed and refreshed before the big day. How very zen!
Lip Lab: With locations Australia-wide, you can book group sessions to select, mix and apply your very own lipstick or lipgloss to suit your style or complexion. It’s a fun and interactive activity….and best of all, you can take your lip-creation home. Winning!
High Tea: Great for the bride to be with a sweet tooth. Think chubby home-style scones with jam & whipped cream, petits fours, endless pots of tea, and of course some vert civilised conversation. Perfect for the Kate Middleton within us.
We love the Langham (Melbourne) Gunners Barracks Tea Room (Sydney) Emporium Hotel (Fortitude Valley, Brisbane) Da Vince’s (Adelaide) and Rochelle Adonis (Perth). Don’t like these suggestions? You can find loads of options on www.Zomato.com
Lawn Bowls: Nothing like some healthy competition amongst friends and family to get the party started! Most lawn bowls clubs allow BYO food or provide access to their BBQ facilities, making it a fun and affordable option. Let’s not forget this is a good opportunity to brush up on your skills so you have the edge over your future hubby in your retirement years.
Slumber Party & Movie Night: Think of this as your right to relive your youth, staying up late, hopping around in your sleeping bag, ghost stories, prank phone calls, midnight snacks, facials, mani-pedi’s, pizza and classic movies (Father of The Bride and The Wedding Singer are high on our list!). All of which, should of course, be enjoyed in your Posy Robe
Happy hen’s planning ladies.
Love, Team Posy
